I have a confession to make. I love whipped cream. Especially the kind that comes from an aerosol can. Whether it is strawberries, pumpkin pie, or hot chocolate, by the time I’ve finished heaping ascending spirals of whipped cream, it is difficult to recognize what lies beneath the mound of creamy lusciousness.
You might say I lavish my food with whipped cream.
I love the word lavish, don’t you? It is such a fun word to say. Webster’s tells us lavish means bestowing profusely, very abundantly. Lavish also means to heap upon, shower down upon, extravagant and, spare no expense.
Lavish is the perfect word for what I do with whipped cream. I heap wavy ribbons abundantly. Then, I savor the creation with pure delight.
The Bible tells us we are lavished with God’s love. His love is so great it is heaped upon us, extravagantly. God spared no expense to make us his sons and daughters. He loved us so much, he allowed his son, Jesus, to come into this world to die a criminal’s death for our sins. That through Christ’s sacrifice, you and I could be saved.
As the object of God’s great love, we can savor that love with overwhelming joy. In return, as God’s obedient children, we can be a true delight to our Father.
What are your thoughts on the subject?
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 1 John 3:1 (NIV)
I wish you well.
