One of my friends had two children. 8-year-old Scott and 6-year-old Lisa. These two children had quite the different personalities. One was pleasant and easygoing. The other withdrawn and sullen.

While Scott had friends and was loved, he couldn’t understand why Lisa seemed to have more friends. So he did what any typical child in his situation would do. He complained to his mother.

While she was sympathetic, she also pointed out their personality differences and asked her son, “Who would you rather be around? Snow White or Grumpy?

It took several minutes for the thought to penetrate his understanding before he answered, “Snow White”, and stomped away.

I wish I could say I was a Snow White all the time, but that isn’t the truth. While I believe I lean heavier to the Snow White end of the spectrum I’ve found that depending on the circumstances, I can go from being a Snow White to being a Grumpy rather quick.

Perhaps the same could be said about you.

I’ve been around people who are definitely a Grumpy more times than not and I spend the least amount of time possible with them. They complain most of the time. Nothing is right according to their view of things. Someone is always out to get them. Life’s not fair…

It takes a lot of positive energy to counter all their negativity and can leave you exhausted. If given a choice, Snow White would be preferred.

When Paul spoke to the church at Philippi he gave them a solution for Grumpy-ness. He told them to change what they thought about.

Yep, life is not fair. Many times we are justified in our complaints. Sometimes it seems as if the world’s gone crazy and very little is going right.

There definitely are situations we find ourselves in where people say things behind our backs that are downright lies. Paul’s words can keep us from turning each of those situations into reasons to be a Grumpy. If we follow his advice we can counteract the world’s negativism and be Snow White.

Who would you rather be around? Snow White or Grumpy? Who would you rather be known as? Snow White or Grumpy?
