Welcome to Pause for Poetry featuring a poem written by my writer-friend, Shirley Specht Johnson.
Great Comfort
by Shirley Specht Johnson
As I look on this young child
you have given me.
I also look to you Lord
with all sincerity.
I ask you Lord to help me guide him,
And teach him to walk in your way.
Be with our every step and teach me how to pray.
For all along I’ve known
you’re a God that answers prayer,
and I find great comfort knowing that you’re there.
Continually will I praise you,
Forever lift up your name.
For I find great comfort
Serving a God that does not change.
He has so many questions
As I watch him grow.
Guide and direct his path,
Lead him where he should go.
Keep me faithful and sincere,
An example before him every single day,
And I ask you dear Lord
To teach him how to pray.
Now I look at this young man
And see more than just my son,
But I see your servant Lord
Whose work has just begun
I thank you Lord for all your strength,
And all your tender care,
And I thank you for my son
Who knows you’re a God that answers prayer.
For all along he’s known
You’re a God that answers prayer,
And he finds great comfort
Knowing that you’re there
Continually will we praise you,
Forever lift up your name,
For we find great comfort
Serving a God that does not change.
