Pause for Poetry — The Real Hero

Welcome to Pause for Poetry featuring a poem written by my writer-friend, Shirley Specht Johnson.

The Real Hero

by Shirley Specht Johnson

The world will shape and mold a hero

or what they think a hero ought to be.

A real hero is a man that loves his family,

A man of compassion,

a man of integrity.

A real hero is a man that is a father to his son,

considers work a privilege,

makes sure a productive day is done.

A real hero is a man that protects and guides his home,

even when at times

he feels like he is standing alone.

A real hero is a man that at times has shed a tear,

the intentions of his heart

are pure and sincere.

A real hero knows there is a greater purpose and a greater plan,

A real hero asks God to guide him

and help him understand.

A real hero loves God,

is thankful for every day.

You can hear it in his voice

and the words he will say.

As the world continues to shape its heroes,

or what they think a hero ought to be.

When I look at you it is a real hero I see.
