Welcome to Pause for Poetry featuring a poem written by my writer-friend, Shirley Specht Johnson.
Thank You Grandpa
by Shirley Specht Johnson
Thank you grandpa for all that you give.
The words you speak, the way you live.
Carrying me on your shoulders way up high,
letting me know I could reach for the sky.
Sharing your telescope to look at the moon,
learning how precious life is through a little bird’s tune.
Your Superman moments, calming my fears,
ice cream and laughter, laughter with tears.
Sharing your faith, quiet moments in prayer.
Being my friend, taking time to care.
The words and moments, treasures in my hands,
As time goes by, life helps one understand.
Thank you grandpa for all that you give,
The words you speak, the way you live.

Hi Shirley….Happy that you have so many wonderful memories of your grandfather. I knew one of my grandfathers but did not have a close relationship with him. My other grandfather lived in Italy and I never met him. I hope that my grandchildren will remember the good times they have had with me as their grandmother and with my husband as their grandfather. Keep writing. Fran

Fran, Thank you for the kind words. Actually I never met any of my grandparents. This was written some time ago after we had a grandchild. My husband adapted real well to the role of grandpa. It is a wonderful blessing for the grandchildren to have grandparents in their lives. Your grandchildren are blessed having you and your husband in their lives. The grandchildren are equally a blessing to the grandparents. Thanks again for the kind words. -shirley
