Sunday Scripture — Break the Infestation of Sin

by Sandy Kirby Quandt

We are now experiencing the worst infestation of Sod Web Worms our area has ever experienced in at least three decades. The infestation is a result of a too wet August, and then a too hot and humid September.

So what do Sod Web Worms do? you might ask. Much like what sin does to our lives, they devour your green grass, decimate your yard, and turn it into a dead patch of brown. While we’ve never aspired to win the Yard of the Month award, it is still discouraging to see our yard destroyed by these pesky moths and worms.

Experts say we need to treat our yard repeatedly with a liquid insecticide about 3 times over a 2 week period. They say it’s just a matter of staying vigilant, and applying the insecticide so the egg cycle is broken. I’ve sprayed our yard four times, and we still have a few moths flying about. Pilot and I can’t give up, though. We must stay vigilant.

As I sprayed our yard the third time, the idea of needing to re-apply the insecticide to break the life cycle of these destroyers caused me to think of what it takes to get rid of sin from our lives. We have to be vigilant. We must re-apply the sin-killing-insecticides over and over and over until the life-cycle of sin is broken.

The life-cycle of the sin can be broken through prayer, Bible study, and strong Christians who hold us accountable.

Have you ever had to deal with sod web worms? If so, did your yard ever recover?

Wash me inside and out from my wrong-doing and make me clean from my sin. Psalms 51:2 (NLV)

I wish you well.
