Sunday Scriptures Treasures From The Secret Places

Years ago Pilot and I celebrated my birthday at the beach. The day was perfect. Sunshine. Cool breeze. Blue skies. I should have been happy. But I wasn’t. The reason was simple. I missed my dad just as I had every day since his death years earlier.

While I walked along the beach searching for shells, I prayed. I poured out my heart and my tears to God. I asked him to heal the pain I felt from missing my dad; missing his birthday call first thing in the morning; hearing his voice; sharing the events of my life with him. The more I prayed the more upset I became.

It didn’t matter to me one bit my mother was still alive at the time. Nope. Not one bit. I dwelt on the fact of what I missed. Not on what I had.

And that’s when it happened. A wave rolled to shore in front of me and deposited a treasure in the form of a perfectly formed three inch conch shell at my feet. From the smoothness of the shell I knew it had been in the ocean for a very long time. Because conchs were not common to our area, I felt as if God sent me this special treasure from the secret places as a reminder he hadn’t forgotten my birthday.

I believed it was a birthday gift created just for me.

Today marks the second anniversary of my mom’s death and I miss her bunches.

Tomorrow as I hold my precious shell in my hand on my birthday and marvel at God’s love for his children, I expect my day will be filled with thoughts of both parents. But my thoughts will especially be filled with grateful thanks to my Heavenly Father who loves me and you enough to send us special treasures from the secret places.

During our times of sadness and distress when we feel forgotten, God often sends treasures from the secret places to remind us of his love. What special treasures have you received from God?

I will give you treasures from dark, secret places; then you will know that I am the Lord and that the God of Israel has called you by name. Isaiah 45:3 (GNT)

I wish you well.
