Pilot and I recently spent a lovely weekend celebrating our wedding anniversary beside a lake populated with mallard ducks. There were several resident ducks right outside our door I enjoyed watching. Pilot asked me what I’d named one particular couple. Drake and Daphne, I replied. We decided one trio of mallards that swam near our paddle boat were a husband, wife and their son. We didn’t name them.

Shortly after the sun rose into the sky each morning, the ducks called out in loud quacks. While some may have been annoyed by the sound, not us. We knew our friends were awake and ready for the day.

Curious, I wanted to know why ducks quack. I didn’t find much when I googled the question, but here is one thing I found interesting.

It is a major opinion of many people that ducks quack as it is their important way of communicating. The quacking sound made by the duck is always compared to the complaining tone. If any one of us is complaining about anything unnecessarily, he is advised not to complain like quacking duck. This is said probably because the quacking sound is made continuously without any break in the morning.

I had never heard the comparison between complaining and a quacking duck. Had you?

That did remind me, however, of a Bible verse from Proverbs Pilot and I printed in our wedding bulletin which you’ll find at the bottom of this post.

While I didn’t mind the morning quacking, I was only subjected to it for a few days. If it was a constant thing, I may view it differently.

Are you surrounded by people who seem to quack all the time? Are you the noisy quacker?

Perhaps it’s time to talk to Jesus about the complaining and find a way to appreciate what we have more than we enjoy complaining about it.
