Faith, Doubt, and God’s Mysterious Timing Book Review

One of the things I especially appreciate in Faith, Doubt, and God’s Mysterious Timing by Laurie Polich Short, is the way she takes familiar stories from the Bible, and points out how God met each person in their faith and doubt to show his perfect timing and sovereignty.

We read about Abraham, Sarah, Hagar, Joseph, Moses, David, Paul, and others in these pages. We see how, through faith, they navigated God’s seeming unanswered prayers, and way-off timing. And we understand, just like them, we can trust the One who orchestrates our path.

There are many nuggets of inspiration within the pages of Faith, Doubt, and God’s Mysterious Timing. In case you’re wondering if this is a book for you, here is one of Laurie’s nuggets. The call to hardship is not a sign of God’s displeasure. Laurie Polich Short

Something Greater Book Review

I found much to ponder and glean from Something Greater, by Jentezen Franklin. In this book, Jentezen suggests we can discover God’s best for our life right where we are by looking for buried acres of diamonds. He references Russell H. Conwell’s lecture, Acres of Diamonds, to remind us that although we may think the place where we are right now is worthless, there is hidden potential.

With examples from Scripture, Jentezen’s life, and the lives of others, Jentezen suggests we must learn to see, value, and grow what we have. Right where we are. He recommends we don’t worry about what tomorrow will bring, and stop living in regret of what we did or didn’t do yesterday.

Jentezen concludes by saying our joy, purpose, peace, and hope are here and now. He suggests we start digging in our own backyard for these things, and watch as God unfolds diamonds in places we think is a valley of dry bones.

Follow God’s Will Book Review

Follow God's Will book cover

Brittany Ann‘s purpose in writing Follow God’s Will is to teach a biblical framework readers can use to hear God’s voice, understand his Word, and determine his will.

Written in a conversational style free of religious jargon, Brittany Ann offers action steps to put into practice what she wrote, especially in the Witnessing with Truth and Love chapter.

The book is divided into two sections. Each chapter consists of scripture to look up, personal stories, and questions.

In the end, Brittany Ann states God has given, and will give, you everything you need to accomplish his will for your life. He simply asks us to trust him where he has us, trusting him to guide us to our next steps in his perfect timing.

Regardless of where you are in life right now, I believe there is wisdom within the pages of Follow god’s Will you can glean from.

Strong in the Battle Book Review

I highly recommend Strong in the Battle by Susie Larson. The spiritual truths contained in this book are truths we need to hold onto to help us be victorious in the midst of our battles.

Following each chapter are sections for practical application. They are: The Humble Way, Discern the Fiery Arrows, Say NO!, and Say YES! There is also a section called Spiritual Intelligence Training. This takes you deeper into Scripture relating to principles in the chapter.

There is so much in this book to ponder and be strengthened by. I found journaling my thoughts as I read helpful.

If you are in a spiritual battle, or want to prepare for the enemy’s next attack, Strong in the Battle is a great resource.

Don’t Miss Out Book Review

If, like me, your understanding of how the Holy Spirit works in your life is a little fuzzy, no matter how long you’ve been a Christ-follower, then Don’t Miss Out: Daring to Believe Life Is Better with the Holy Spirit by Jeannie Cunnion may just be the book for you. Written in thirty relatively short chapters, Don’t Miss Out can be read one chapter a day for a month, or multiple chapters at one sitting.

Written in a personal, conversational style, Jeannie backs up her insights of the person of the Holy Spirit with Scripture. I found myself taking notes as I read to be sure I didn’t forget some important point she mentioned.

Here is a sample of what I wrote:

  • There are no circumstances that can cause the Holy Spirit to leave you behind. He doesn’t give up on you when you give up on yourself.
  • The Holy spirit is a skilled communicator. He knows what to say when we are at a loss for words or need words to speak into a difficult situation.
  • Knowing the Spirit has a personality matters because we can’t have a relationship with a symbol. We can only have a relationship with a person, and that is precisely what we can have with the person of the Holy Spirit.

There is much more in the pages of Don’t Miss Out that speaks of the incredible benefits of the Holy Spirit’s presence in our life. I highly recommend it. This is one of those books which I will keep on my shelf and read often.
