Victory In Jesus

by Sandy Kirby Quandt

Earlier this month I mentioned what happened when the reality of life bumped into my expectations during Pilot and my anniversary trip in March.

Well, five days after we returned from that adventure, we headed for the reenactment of the Goliad Massacre during the Texas fight for independence from Mexico in 1836.

Just like the weather didn’t fully cooperate during the Florida part of our trip in March, the weather didn’t appear to cooperate as we stood outside in line with the masses waiting to purchase our tickets for the Goliad event.

As irritation began to rise, I had a talk with myself, and asked if I was going to allow rain to keep me from enjoying this outing. And you know what? I decided it could rain all it wanted, but I was not going to let it ruin my day and turn me into a grump. (I’m sure Pilot was grateful for that decision.)

That decision was a major victory in itself.

Glory hallelujah, within half an hour the rain stopped, the infantry, artillery, and cavalry took the field, the reenactment began, and not another drop of rain fell the rest of the weekend.

The only way I was able to keep from being grumpy when the rain first began to fall was to remember Jesus has won the victory over Satan through his death and resurrection. Satan is powerless. I reminded myself to not allow the great deceiver to use the irritations of life steal my joy. Remembering those truths did not simply pop up by my own will.

No sirree.

That victory came from the Holy Spirit’s power living in me through the victory of a risen Savior, Jesus Christ my Lord.

When life gets all out of whack, and threatens to steal our joy right out from under us, we must rely on the victory we have in Jesus to get us on the other side. Amen?

But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:57 (NLT)

I wish you well.
