Fresh Grounded Faith Unshaken Women

by Sandy Kirby Quandt

The beginning of November I attended Jennifer Rothschild’s Fresh Grounded Faith Women’s Conference that included Sheila Walsh and Laura Story. What a marvelous two days. So much wisdom. So much love. So much truth.

If you are unfamiliar with who Jennifer is, let me share how she introduces herself on her blog:

My name is Jennifer Rothschild – with a silent “s”.  I am an author, speaker, Bible study teacher, wife and Mom.

And, I happen to be blind.

I’m just like you. I just do things a little differently.

I write about real life and share what I’m learning from a real God. My goal is to create inspiring, relevant, and practical content that will empower you to live beyond limits.

Did you catch that? It’s like, “Oh. By the way. I’m blind.” This woman is absolutely incredible, as were Sheila and Laura. They do not speak before crowds to bring praise or glory to themselves. They speak before crowds to bring praise and glory to the One True Living God who loves each and every one of us with an everlasting, endearing love.

Each of these women shared from her heart what a Big God can do in our lives despite our circumstances.

I’ll attempt to share some of what I received from Jennifer, Sheila, and Laura with the understanding what God said to me through them may not be what those seated around me received. Isn’t it funny how that works? Also, my notes are not word for word, but my interpretation of what I heard.

Jennifer – We get shaken because we’re not where we’re supposed to be. Or we’re right where we’re supposed to be. God wants to use the things that shake us to shape us. When we’re most shaken, we see God more clearly.

Sheila – Until we understand Jesus knows the worst about us, we can’t accept the best about us. Your history doesn’t dictate your destiny. Dorothy dreamed of a rainbow, and got hit with a tornado. Sometimes God will take you to a prison to set you free.

Laura – We weren’t designed to be able to function on our own without God. We were designed to need God. We’re created by God. We’re his poem. His masterpiece. When we get knocked off our path, it’s not a detour. It’s a new road.

With that said, if a Fresh Grounded Faith conference comes to your area — go! You will be glad you did.

Have you attended a Fresh Grounded Faith conference? If so, what’d you think?

Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. Psalm 62:6 (NIV)

God Is Faithful

by Sandy Kirby Quandt

As I sat outside with Baxter in the windy and rain-free morning sunshine last Wednesday after four days of constant flooding rainfall, courtesy of Hurricane Harvey, I praised God for this faithfulness and prayed for those so horridly impacted by the destruction.

Pilot and I were spared with very minimal damage. Many, many others unfortunately were not.

Isn’t it peculiar how a few short hours and a shift in the wind can shift our perspective?

Monday evening after three very long, hard days of dealing with incessant rains which caused water to leak into our living room, and maybe a grand total of six hours of sleep during those three days, I felt depleted physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Almost.

Prayer partners worked overtime on our behalf. Thank you, Jesus.

We knew the same Jesus who stilled the storm on the Sea of Galilee could calm our storm. We knew the Maker of the Wind could blow the bands of rain stuck between two high pressure systems out of our area, or better yet, simple remove the storm’s power altogether. We knew this. What we didn’t know was when.

Although Monday night was bleak, Tuesday dawned with promise. The rain didn’t come down so hard. There were breaks between downpours. The water that came into our house slowed. The end looked like it might be in sight. Praise God.

So Tuesday evening, after four dreadful days, God decided it was time.

No matter what storm each of us faces in our lives when we know the Maker of the Wind and Master of the Waves, we can be confident God is faithful and he is able. Although we may wonder when he’s going to rescue us, his timing is perfect. Just because we can’t see God working, that doesn’t mean he isn’t.

On one of those days Jesus and His followers got into a boat. Jesus said to them, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” Then they pushed out into the water. As they were going, Jesus fell asleep. A wind storm came over the lake. The boat was filling with water and they were in danger. The followers came to awake Jesus. They said, “Teacher! Teacher! We are going to die!” Then Jesus got up and spoke sharp words to the wind and the high waves. The wind stopped blowing and there were no more waves.  He said to them, “Where is your faith?” The followers were surprised and afraid. They said to each other, “What kind of a man is He? He speaks to the wind and the waves and they obey Him.” Luke 8:22-25 (NLV)

I wish you well.

How Can We Keep From Singing?

By Sandy Kirby Quandt

Since the LORD is the lord of heaven and earth, tell me, how in the world can we keep from singing? Regardless of what he permits or plans for our lives?

Can the clay pot tell the potter he didn’t get it right? “Uh, this handle seems a little thick. Could you pinch off some of the excess?”

After sharing the news regarding my recent diagnosis of Lupus, I received mixed reactions. Some have been sympathetic. Some have been silent. Some have responded in anger at the very idea.

Like many of you, life events and circumstances have beat me up and spit me out many, many times. When people question with a “Why you?” I respond with a “Why not me?”

Many of you face ordeals that are enough to put someone into an unrecoverable spiral. Yet, by the grace of God, you still stand to face another day.

God is faithful to bring beauty from the ashes. Thank you, Jesus.

Among Pilot’s talents and abilities is his love for playing music. Most evenings, he pulls out one instrument or the other. His songs of praise are an offering to the maker of that music.

When I step outside and listen, the birds’ choruses rise to the heavens. Somewhere in their songs I believe is praise to the Creator.

To my memory, my dad whistled or sang most days. I believe it pleased God to hear Dad express both his pain and joy that way.

Music.

One way to express our joy. One way to express our pain. One way to acknowledge the God who is much, much, bigger than we are. The God who holds us in his righteous hand, and will never leave or forsake us.

No matter what the future holds we need not fear, for we know who holds tomorrow.

But let everyone who trusts you be happy; let them sing glad songs forever. Protect those who love you and who are happy because of you. Psalm 5:11 (NCV)

I wish you well.

Sunday Scriptures — God Will Fulfill His Plans

By Sandy Kirby Quandt

Waiting is tough. Don’t I know it. Who likes to wait for something you’ve been promised? Certainly not me. Perhaps not you. It was fourteen years between the day the Prophet Samuel anointed the shepherd David as Israel’s next king, and the day David actually took the throne. During that time David waited. He waited in caves and wilderness while King Saul pursued him with the intent to eliminate the threat David posed to Saul’s throne.

I’ve often pondered how David felt during this time. Did he wonder if Samuel got it wrong when he anointed David? Did he wonder if God had changed his mind? Did he wonder if he’d done something that caused the promise to be rescinded?

David penned numerous psalms during his time running from Saul. Many of those psalms are filled with questions, fears, petition and repentance. They are also full of faith and hope in the God who saves.

He could have taken Saul’s life on two separate occasions, but he didn’t. David didn’t rush God’s agenda. He waited on God’s perfect timing. He had confidence the LORD would work out his plans for David’s life.

Have there been times when you were absolutely positive God called you to something, yet the way was delayed? There were blockades at every turn? Or you were told you didn’t have what it takes?

I’m learning if God has truly called us to do something for him, he’ll make it happen. In his timing. Not necessarily in ours. Like with David, God might be delaying what he has promised us to better prepare us to do the job. God might be giving us life-experiences now that will make the job easier once we do begin it.

Like I said, waiting is tough. But I’m learning God’s timing is perfect.

Though I am surrounded by troubles, you will bring me safely through them. You will clench your fist against my angry enemies! Your power will save me. The Lord will work out his plans for my life—for your loving-kindness, Lord, continues forever. Don’t abandon me—for you made me. Psalm 138:7-8

I wish you well.
