God’s Shield of Protection

In the midst of current events there is so much loss. So much devastation. So much uncertainty. So much social unrest. So much hatred. Yet in it all, God’s shield of protection surrounds us.

I find I must constantly pick up my Bible, read what it says, and remind myself these battles are not mine to fight alone. For the God who placed the stars in the heavens and planets in motion remains on his throne. He remains in control. He is able to keep his shield of protection securely wrapped around each of us.

During these troubling times, we might feel helpless but we really aren’t. Through the power of prayer we can petition God to place his shield around each and every situation we face. The battles we face in this life are the Lord’s to fight on our behalf.

Even though they faced a large enemy when the Old Testament king Jehoshaphat and his army prepared to go into battle, God told them not to be discouraged or afraid. The outcome of the battle didn’t depend on what Jehoshaphat and his army could or couldn’t do. The outcome depended on God.

Jehoshaphat was told he and his men didn’t need to fight the battle. Their job was to meet the enemy, take up their positions, and wait. The Lord would give the victory.

There are battles all around us. Health battles. Job battles. Family battles. Financial battles. Relationship battles.

We’ve been given our orders. We are not to look at our discouraging circumstances and be overcome with fear. We are instructed to face the enemy and wait upon the Lord to win the victory.

Whenever we feel as if we’re fighting an impossible battle, no matter what foe we may be up against or how bleak the situation may appear, our hope of victory comes through the confidence we have in God’s shield of protection wrapped securely around us.

Sunday Scriptures — Some Trust in Chariots

In reading about the military battles of the Israelites throughout the Old Testament, one thing I have noticed is the reliance of many nations upon their military might and weaponry.

Many of these nations did not rely upon God. Those who relied on their own devices usually failed unless God was using their victory for his own purposes. Those who relied on God usually succeeded unless God was using their defeat as punishment.

Those who did not rely on God relied on their chariots and horses. They relied on their weapons of iron. They relied on their enormous numbers.

Time and again we see that God is not interested in chariots, weapons, or numbers.

King Ahab and King Jehoshaphat 2 Chronicles 18, David and Goliath 1 Samuel 17, and  Gideon Judges 7 are a few examples of this truth that come to mind.

Today we face armies that may seem to outnumber us. They may wield far superior weapons of iron while we carry a sling and five stones. They may be riding in chariots pulled by swift horses as we slug along on foot.

Doesn’t matter. What matters is that we have God on our side.

Whenever we feel as if we are fighting a difficult battle, whatever foe we may be up against, our hope of victory comes through the LORD.

The Battle is the LORD’s Part II

Several months ago, I wrote how the battles we face are God’s to fight. In that post I said, We face giants today. Some days, the battles are fierce. Other days just naggingly annoying. Some days the battle has raged for a long time. Other days we’re blindsided. Either way, if we go out in our own strength we’re sure to fail, or at the most, win only a partial victory.

Today, I would like to revisit that idea. Although I truly believe God must fight our battles for us, and I cling to and hold onto that promise, there are times I waver.

Another new health concern is the latest battle God will have to fight for me. And no…I haven’t gone on any trips lately. 😉

One more auto-immune disease has been added to my Fibromyalgia and growing list of other health concerns. Lupus.

Woven and spun…God put in what he wanted to put in, and left out what he wanted to leave out when I was created in my mother’s womb.

When King Jehoshaphat and his army prepared to go into battle, God told them not to be discouraged or afraid. Even though they faced a large enemy. The outcome of the battle didn’t depend on what the king and his army could or couldn’t do. The outcome depended on God.

I know many of you are going through battles of your own right along with me. Health battles. Job battles. Family battles. Financial battles. Relationship battles. Addiction battles…
