God’s Got This

bingby Sandy Kirby Quandt

After the last hurricane hit our area, a widowed friend of mine told the story of how she was struggling to haul tree debris to the curb. She’d been working at clearing her yard all day and was exhausted. She didn’t think she had the strength to drag another limb, yet knew the trash truck was in sight, and it wouldn’t wait.

Across the street her neighbor wrestled trash bags to the curb as her husband bingdrove into their driveway. She told him she still had more trash to get to the curb before the truck arrived.

My friend paused as she told me the story.

“My neighbor’s husband said, ‘Don’t worry. I’ve got this.’ At that moment I wanted what she had. Someone to say, ‘Don’t worry. I’ve got this’, then I realized I do. God. He’s got this.”

Our struggle may not be hauling hurricane debris to the curb before the trash truck arrives, but each of us has times when we want someone to come alongside, take the load from our tired and weary hands, and carry it to the curb for us, don’t we?

We get worn out by the everyday circumstances of life and want to rest. We are tired of the struggles that surround us. We are reluctant to read the latest news. Everything seems to be falling apart at our feet.

bingThe Bible tells us God holds every tear we’ve ever cried and records them in his book.

He is in control of all creation. Nothing happens he didn’t plan or permit.

Everything and everyone is under him.

Whether they like to believe it, or not. It’s a fact.

Are there times we forget who God truly is?

Do we ever leave him out of our struggles, falsely believing we’re the ones in control and don’t need any help?

Do we forget to turn the controls over to God, he’s the one in charge after all, and refuse to listen when he says, “I’ve got this”?

We don’t have to understand. We just have to obey and let God be God.

He really does have this.

You have seen me tossing and turning through the night. You have collected all my tears and preserved them in your bottle! You have recorded every one in your book. Psalm 56:8 (TLB)

I wish you well.

Sunday Scriptures — He Knows When We Cry

You’ve kept track of my every toss and turn through the sleepless nights. Each tear entered in your ledger, each ache written in your book. Psalm 56:8 MSG

Sleepless nights. Tears. Worries. Stress. Fears. Yep, I’ve had ’em, and I imagine so have you.

We may wonder…Does anyone care when we struggle?

The answer put simply, is yes. God cares.

When David was seized by the Philistines in Gath, he wrote Psalm 56. He believed God cared. He believed God was with him. He believed God understood.

And God does care. He is with us. He does understand. No tear falls that God is not aware of. We have no pain he does not know about. He is with us, and for us.

Because of that, we can sleep well.

I wish you well.
