Welcome to Pause for Poetry featuring a poem written by my writer-friend, Shirley Specht Johnson.
Slow Down
by Shirley Specht Johnson
Slow down
from the busyness,
from the here and there.
Relax
on the front porch
in grandma’s rocking chair.
Slow down
to hear the robin sing
its morning song.
Breathe
the morning air,
perhaps you’ll sing along.
Slow down
share some kind words
with a passerby.
Enjoy,
the beauty of the clouds,
the stars in the sky.
Slow down,
share a meal with your family,
your friends.
Take time,
for those you love.
Take time
to laugh again.
Slow down
don’t get mad when the stop light turns red.
Think of all the good things,
count your blessings instead.
Slow down
from chasing dreams deadlines and goals.
Love
the simple moments,
for they are life you know.
